The origins of night photography stretch back almost to the earliest days of the medium of photography itself. The first night photographers faced tremendous technological hurdles that today’s photographers wouldn’t begin to understand. Not only was photographing at night much more difficult, but early photographers faced suspicion, skepticism and outright derision.

Even when faced with so many obstacles, these early photographers were a dedicated and industrious bunch, and there are many things we can learn from them and apply to our own night photography practice today.

Lance Keimig has studied the work of night photography pioneers for 30 years, and in this presentation he will condense and extract the most valuable lessons he’s learned.
