Michael DeYoung is a pro adventure and travel photographer. His 30-plus-year career began in Alaska and resulted in countless national credits including magazine covers, greeting cards, calendars and all forms of advertising, mostly in the tourism industry. He has transformed his Air Force meteorological and weather forecasting expertise into finding the optimal light anywhere outdoors.
Michael practices minimalism with photo equipment, focusing mostly on creative skills such as light and design. He also leads nature-based workshops for Arizona Highways Photoscapes and under his own brand, DeYoung Active Photo Tours, mostly in Alaska and the Southwest. He is a brand ambassador for Breakthrough Photography filters and is sponsored by Hyperlite Mountain Gear, for which he has authored of a series of meteorological blogs for adventurers.
When not shooting commercially or leading a tour, Michael and his wife Lauri are commonly found on remote backpack or whitewater river trips. In 2021 they hiked through Oregon on the Pacific Crest Trail and led two remote, self-supported whitewater river trips in the Brooks Range of Alaska and through the Grand Canyon.
